  • what a shame!James should have bothered Richey more to learn guitar

  • i think he had some lessons from James, but sadly he poses more than plays.

once Richey said"Why is everyone hung up on an ugly piece of wood and metal and strings?" and "I can't play guitar very well, but I wanna make the guitar look lethal."

  • ha! If ever there was a man who didn't need to justify himself as a rockstar ...it's Richey Edwards... plugged in or not. :)

  • I was down the front and said it with a grin and he, rather charmingly, shook his head, mouthed the word "no" and gave a lovely smile back. A very nice moment. I saw the Manics many times over the years, in lots of places (Liverpool, Manchester, Swansea), they were always a brilliant live act. Richey was a very cool individual (as evinced by the moment at the gig) and the Manics really were the best thing to come out of Wales (music wise) since John Cale. And yes, I am Welsh...

  • One day I will be able to play the guitar aswell as Richey

  • @acidxburnedxsoul He shakes his head

  • Guitar skills aside, I think Caitlin Moran said it best when she said "This is beauty beyond lust" about Richey.

  • Richey was a rhythm guitarist - nothing more - and if you listen to some live vids on here such as Glastonbury you can here the chords chugging behind James' lead work and actually see the chords he's holding. No he wasnt a great musician but he DID actually play basic chords live and that's all the others needed him to do. . . . musically

  • Hahah good one.

He DID start playing live, it was only earlier shows that he wasn't plugged in. There's some guitar parts that James couldn't have been playing, cos Richey was doing lead and James's hands were no where near what Rich was playing, and you can hear him.

  • My comment I posted doesn't make any sense...

  • @lolitykG Is,

He is still doing it, quite well actually and i would argue better than before even.

I can't but start to wonder what if Richey would had eventually learned to play guitar, even just slighty and continued to write those amazing lyrics, but sadly all i could do is just entertain the idea, which saddens me even more.

  • so I don't get it...did he still play guitar live? even though it's not plugged in?

mustn't just though when he looks so good and is a genius lyricist

  • @gauchoestatico I'm welsh too brother...

  • man your kidding...xP anyway richey didnt need to be hendrix, van halen or santana cause he was one of the best lyricists ever...lack of guitar skills get owned by his lyrical skills...FACT...and the manics didnt need another great guitarist, james was a good guitar player...
