  • I heard that fanning a revolver will damage it. Is this true?

  • Yes, but if you only do this once in a while it will not hurt the gun. But if you buy a gun like Colt or Smith and Wesson they are made to handle fanning. All fanning does it wear down the firing pin alot faster.

  • Does that mean that the Colt SAA is meant to handle fanning?

  • Yes, they should hold up well to the fanning.

  • @cah9178 Agreed, the cylinder has to fully line up first, and even when done correctly, you`ll wear out the cylinder rotate pin.

  • actully fanning any .22 SA revolver is not a good idea because they are rim fire cartriges meaning only the rim has to be hit with the firing pin.

so the rim can be struck with the firing pin while the cylinder may not be lined up with the barrel causing damage

    happened to me
