"Being ordinary versus special is part of the human struggle. Everyone wants to be special rather than ordinary. However, the spiritual path leads to the understanding that it is one self having all these lifetimes and experiences. It is like the oneness of the ocean, it is all the same self. Self inquiry, Zen mindfulness, guided meditation, transcendental meditation, holding a yoga asana, the reciting of a mantra or the singing of a kirtan, self help books... all of these are ways to come to the understanding that it is all One Self and that no one is special because it is the same One that is in everyone... Special versus ordinary create the idea of separation, standing out, differences..."
"One self, same self, self inquiry is a meditation on oneness. Zen transcendental help in a guided mindfulness meditation, mantra, kirtan, asana... Oneness guided meditation and zen mindfulness meditation helps one discover the one self, the same self that is in all, the oneness that is in all that is, Zen is transcendental help for self inquiry... Kirtan is a type of practice, mantra another practice, and yoga asana..."

Eight minutes in; it's not the substance that matters, it is our disposition. We all have the same disposition - we desire happiness and wish to avoid suffering, therefore we are all equal.
on the contrary i believe some people are special and others are by no means normal.. rapists murderers etc. i am not the same as them, with or without the spiritual jargon.
No we are individuals. We work together to create a greater world. We can relate but we are not one. We don't need to get all spiritual to know we can give a damn about another without the need of a god or guide.
What truly separates us though. If you look down to a close enough level their is a train of tiny particles that connect us together. Binding us intrinsically within the context of our environment all of life and existence are interdependent. We depend on each other. That is what she is trying to say I think.
Wow I really like this tape, the idea of not separating yourself by thinking your either more special or less special than others, we are all the same essence, truely enlightening for me and also a freeing feeling of letting go of trying to maintain sense of separation. Thanks Christine :)
