  • Brings a tear to my eye to see a ta move that quick, gotta love the firebird

  • he was right.

  • @CarmeleonBE Veyron SS would rag this

  • Someone tell me what's in that Trans am because I want to put in what ever they put in that Trans am to make it go that fast.

  • funny thing here is that in a land of Lamborghini's, Ferraris and Bugattis a Friggen '87 Trans am is the fastest car!!

  • Don't get me wrong, I'm still impressed by this car, especially with a driver running this fast in the rain. It reminds me of the Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette testing. With a Lingenfelter TT SBC under the hood and John Lingenfelter behind the wheel, he was running 240+ during test runs in heavy rain, and ultimately ran 256MPH. The thought the car had more in it, but left it at that.

  • I'm pretty sure the Keating TKR or the NRE TT LSX powered Mosler (or any of the swoopy NRE powered cars) are considerably faster than this. The TKR did 260 mph at El Mirage dry lake in 3 miles while only running 10psi (900 HP) when it's good for 1200+HP on pump and 1800hp on race at full boost (32 psi). The similar engine in the Mosler ran Vegas to LA getting 19 MPG with water and oil temps never over 160 F. Street Legal: Check. 250+mph: Easily. Finding a driver to keep the pedal down: not yet

  • Now I know why KITT has an English accent.

  • trans am is cool for high speeds, the body shape is very aerodynamic from the factory. and looks and sounds cool. :D

  • @jetpoweredgriffin This car's street legal. It runs on pump gas.

  • Bad ass, Third Gen's are the best!

  • In 1987,Gale Banks went 283MPH with a Pontiac GTA. In 1999, at Bonneville,Kugel&Lefevers Pontiac averaged just over 300MPH,exiting at 307MPH. Although this video was put up a few years ago, but their info was still wrong, even then. Even so,it's still fast... but nowhere near fast enough. Only 5 of the 50 Veyrons built at the new level will be set to reach the new max level. They are factory hot rods but I don't call "5" production. When you get to this level, it's just who's fastest.
  • Awesome! I just love the 3rd Gen Firebirds, especially the GTA. I had a 1986 Firebird V6 years ago. I have a C5 Corvette now but still miss my old bird. Back then it was too expensive for me to fix its broken engine but now I think I should have kept it. 3rd gens are getting rare now. Nice to see an old supertuned Firebird breaking modern day supercar records. There was a time the 3rd gen F-bodies were the most aerodynamic production cars in the world. Nice vid, thanks for sharing.

  • @CarmeleonBE the Veyron s record is official it can be seen goinbg 407 kmh on the audi test track

  • SICK! PONTIAC FIREBIRD DESTROYS ALL! AMERICAN MUSCLE BABY! NO BETTER WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I know it's an American car and most likely powered by an American engine, but it is the work of a bunch of Europeans. So as much I'm proud to be an American I'd have to say at least half the credit has to go to the craftmanship that turned what we essentially consider a clunker here, into a Veyron beating supercar.

Today the record has been broken by the Veyron but this car is still one helluva machine and honestly, if I had to spend my own money buying a 250mph car, I'd get this.

  • @vindicator2008 Yes but this is a street legal car not strictly a race car.

  • /watch?v=urXPM_P-8kY

Its in Britain, so its Europe's fastest street-legal car. Also the fastest street-legal car currently in the world (1/4 mile and 0-60 times anyways).

    ;D

  • @William1987gta banks built on a stock body trubo trans am it clocked 263mph and thats was years ago

  • @William1987gta hell yeah man you got that right

  • @Kurisuchianu89 that's a real K.I.T.T. :D hehehe

  • @WarCowboy - he doesn't need American this or that. It was his preference. Simple as that. Lots of euro guys like muscle cars, as we like they're euro stuff as well. Quit with the import vs domestic implications. It just shows ignorance and narrow mindedness.

  • @Kurisuchianu89

Just as funny that an European tuner needs an American car to work with.

  • let's put it just the other way round my friend, FUNNY that a european tuner needed an AMERICAN cars to make a record breaking car ;)

  • it wouldnt be that hard to make one just a big block i think 650 or so plus a supercharger that pushes 30+psi about one hundred thousand dollars to build it not much really.
