the movie sucks! sorry but the shots are stupid! who wants to see the reactions of the family's faces for 10 fucking minutes and the worst thing: the remote!!! WTF?????

@acousticology Agreed, the last act of this movie (if you look away fom all the bad and long shots earlier in the film) was the most boring thing I have ever seen in a film I belive, nothing is happening in this bad movie. I dont see how ppl can like this one.. Intresint idea, bad product..

@clrb15 I hate typical gore-fest movies and I also really hate "Funny Games". It was so incredibly boring and pretentious. Go watch "Afterschool" its just as critical of violence but its actually interesting to watch.

one of the best horror movie......and one of the my favorite movie
-
in a nutshell it just show audiences everything they've already seen, there is nothing really shocking that audiences havent already seen.
And that i think is Hanke's point, through out the film it asks you hundreds of times "Why are you still watching this film".
Of course there are loads of other themes, that others have explained much better then i could...
and in response to the fella down there, this film is only predictable if you've seen the original. IT IS NOT PREDICTABLE!

Then it really does boil down to personal opinion. I like feeling satisfied at the end of a movie. You don't necessarily.

I just saw the movie and it was completely boring and very predictable.

I liked "Funny Games" and not for the reasons alot of people liked it. I have always wondered about a horror film where none of the victims lives. You know like in Halloween/F13th-someone always escapes. This one is very different that way because I expected it to end that way. I've not seen the German version, but this was a decent movie.
So this movie is good because it makes me feel like shit?

@admiralzzyx Exactly. It shows that not every victim in movies needs to live (its been done before in other movies) but specifically this one, the villians are in control from the very beginning, (ex. looking into the camera, asking the audience questions, remote control etc.) there was no hope for the family. That's why I love it, movies don't need a happy ending.

This is what Michael Haneke was expecting americans who don't watch subtitled movies, but love to see the latest gore fest or slasher flick will be turned off, pissed off and frustrated by Funny Games. The film is a satire of horror movies and mocks the audience by showing them what they want but then flipping it on it's head, giving you violence but the not stylized, unrealistic type americans are accustomed to is haneke's intention.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Exactly what I was trying to explain. Most people like the typical American gore-fest and ARE entertained but in this Haneke wants you to think that something is going to benefit the family but instead twists it on the audience. It toys with the viewer while keeping it entertaining and thought provoking.

funny games is a fuckin cheat. its like they wanna make it realistic to present the way things would really happen in real life. i understood that aspect of the film.....but then this motherfucker gets to rewind and redo the chaos whenever he wants?
thats fuckin bullshit. dont bring up "realistic" if this son of a bitch can pull a Neo, and just control reality...thats such a fuckin pussy movie by the filmakers....

You have to know too that the movie knows its a movie. The characters look at the screen and talk to the audience. I like it so much because no matter how much you want the good people to win and/or you want it to go your own way, the movie doesn't let that happen.
So even though the movie is made to be realistic in how things happen, it's also a movie, and anything can happen when the killers are in control...and they are.
