What is the main problem for the 21. century digital journalist? Its not technology but how she/he can make a living in a mass market of one where everything is taken and given for free.

The answer for the journalist is to see his audience not only as the source of his story but at the same time as the consumer of a product called advertisement.

The answer brings us to the very beginning of the profession Journalism and its roots in the Renaissance.

Today we are in the middle of a new Renaissance.

What changed during the first one was not so much a result of new technologies but the insides into "how nature works" that allowed them evolve. As much as the environment around underwent a change that is best visible here in Birmingham, mankinds self-perception shifted too.

It shifted away from the collective towards the individual. It shifted away from god towards reason.

Today we not only perceive but live the results of this paradigmatic change in the world around us.

This video shows two people who's self-perception is shaped by the same paradigmatic change that they try to give new meaning by formulating the answer to the problem "How do storytellers make money?"
