The man credited with saving millions from starvation in the 1960s and '70s has died (September 12) at the age of 95. Norman Borlaug won the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize for his pioneering work breeding disease-resistant wheat plants. VOA's Steve Baragona looks at the legacy of this American who spawned the Green Revolution in global agriculture.

Imagine that your child was starving to death - that kind of suffering is unimaginable, terrible, the stuff that haunts the dreams of the creative masochist. Now multiply that suffering by ~1 billion. That's the suffering that Norman Boulaug alleviated. Saving a billion lives, saving more than were killed by Stalin, Mao, and Hilter combined.
That's Dr. Borlaug... the greatest man to ever live.
