In this video Keith Reynolds gives helpful advice on how to improve your coaching skills. Some of the key parts of this discussion are:
"Tennis is a receiving game before its a sending game"
"Learn to play then play to learn"
"The hitting of the ball is only one part of the game"
Keith uses alternative methods of coaching, rather than just talking about technique. He encourages having players, especially beginners, learn how to control the ball - moving it right and left, short and deep. You can then give advice on technique to help them control the ball better. At this point they will be more responsive to your advice, knowing that you are helping a part of their game that needs work.

Great video. He and Brett Hobden would get along great. I try to help other coaches see the importance of receiving skills and understanding the incoming ball. Too often they go out there and become to much concerned with how the kids look when their hitting a ball. Hey is that a momosa Tommy? :)

@YarpBarp09 Thanks mate, yes, when you work on technique (like I obviously do) it has to be based around improving control or power or handling a certain shot etc, not just for the looks. I think coaches forget the point of good technique sometimes. That's when you get a player with a long sweeping one handed backhand that doesn't know how to play points because they can't adapt to different shots. Thanks for the comment!
