A costumed guide leads you through the beautifully restored Governor's Palace. Colonial Williamsburg was commercial and cultural hub of the Virginia colony. Colonial Williamsburg also gave rise to several key revolutionary figures: George Washington, Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson honored their oratory skills here. Additionally, the Virginia Resolution for Independence - a forerunner to the American Revolution - was passed in the colonial capital. Yes I know about the high school, I was in a graduate class on the restoration of Williamsburg. I was pointing out that it was not a restoration as some may assume.

@mysteriousyoungman Also very important was "The Frenchman's Map" a detailed sketch done by a French visitor who recorded the town as it was. During the restoration in the 1930's this map was located in the Bodleian Library at Oxford University. On the site of the Governor's Palace a new high school had recently been built. It was demolished and the Palace was rebuilt in its original spot.

I would just like to point out that this is not a "restoration". The Governor's Palace was completely rebuilt on the original foundation. We have an idea of what the floor plan was because Thomas Jefferson, while living there as gov. of Va. sketched the floor plan.
