Available on DVD from www.digitalclassics.co.uk and all major retailers.

This flamboyant extravaganza, directed by Ken Russell (Tommy, Women in Love) tells the scandalous tale of superstar composer Franz Liszts (Roger Daltry) hedonistic life of groupies, sex and music, as well as his rivalry with the scheming Richard Wagner (Paul Nicholas). A freewheeling, utrageous and over-the-top look at the life of the worlds first pop superstar. Also starring Ringo Starr as the Pope.
A berserk exercise of demented genius Roger Ebert
Post-Beatles RococoFor Mr. Russell, the shortest line between two points is a pretzel. Vincent Canby, NY Times.

  • I looked this up on Amazon. Apparently, the DVD release of this title was withdrawn. I resent having a "good taste" police stopping me from enjoying LISZTOMANIA in may living room.

  • @frankenmart It has not been withdrawn, still available although I like the idea of the good taste police getting at it ;)

  • This movie is fucking nuts. It is like "Tommy" meets Fellini's Casanova...

    RIP Ken Russell

  • Mr Russell is very much alive

  • This needs a R1 NTSC release, pronto!

  • When I saw this about twenty years ago I thought this was a director worth checking out and have since see pretty much all of his major films---the good and the interesting failures. Deeply saddened by his death. There are very few directors worthy to be called visionaries-----certainly NONE today---but Ken Russell is amongst that rare breed who thought more of cinema than mere entertainment. Very sad.

  • Hm... it's a little too subtle.

  • @DigitalClassics You spoke too soon! RIP Mr Russell

  • @DigitalClassics

    not now!

  • Uh, is this on R1 DVD? Seriously, more tripped out than the other rock operas of that era.

  • @DigitalClassics Sadly, he isn't anymore.

  • I saw this when I was 12 years old at the premier in Sydney. Why we were allowed in is a mystery.

I remember seeing a big penis.

  • Just watching this failed Ruscell Attempt gives me a phallus!

  • Does anyone know the name of the song?
