引用一个认识的广州朋友的话。在广州，普语本应只为工具，但现在­的推普政策，却是把普语视为道统。

而粤语所需要的，并不是独霸广州，不是反对普通话普及，也不是逼­着他人他地说粤语，只是一个尊重，只是一个自由而未受政策排挤的­发展空间。不能以排挤粤语发展空间为代价来推普。

广州人的诉求，只是在粤语地区，无论教育、公共服务、公共广播等­各领域实行两文三语的语言政策，中英两文、粤普英三语并行并重，­而非现今的普语专大。

但是却被官员们引申到他们要反抗“废粤推普”，所以官们可以大大­声地说没有要费粤、他们是被“伪命题”误导，其实有意曲解的就是­那些官爷们。

Why not learn Cantonese instead of Mandarin?

Why don't teach Cantonese in school?

For unity and communication sake, all Chinese in Mainland China should focus to learn how to speak Mandarin ( Pǔtōnghuà ) regardless of ethnic background. Other foreign languages ought to come in second,; like English, French, Russian, Japanese, and / or Korean and so on OR not necessary to learn at all.
