I believe that the Tomcast was retired due to its age and fleetwide maintenance costs. It was over 30 years old, and was getting very expensive to maintain and keep airborne.

Saturday Night, September 18th, 2010 On Saturday night, September 18th, the Beach Blast begins at 6:30 p.m. with a free concert at the 31st Street Park, Virginia Beach Oceanfront (adjacent to the Hilton). When the sun sets, the Navy will join the party with a Super Hornet afterburner flyover, immediately followed by a team parachute jump onto the beach.
