It is estimated that 75% of women in the UK are wearing the wrong size. A correctly fitting bra works wonders for posture, figure shape and to minimise back pain.

However, since television fashion gurus such as Trinny and Suzanna and Gok Wan have highlighted the problem now more and more women are taking advantage of the service offered by most good lingerie retailers. But what do you do if you want to shop online?

Produced by Quay Creative for lingerie retailer Woods of Morecambe, this short guide demonstrates how a bra should look if fitted correctly and how to measure for the accurate size at home.

  • THESE ARE ALWAYS WRONG. This tells me I'm a double D.

    I'm a B cup.

  • Well as it says in the programme, 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong size. Many have a back size that's too big to compensate for a cup size that's too small.

Our model for this shoot was wearing a C cup and when we actually measured her for the programme it turned out she was an F cup! Why not try a double D next time you're shopping and see how it feels. Or you could always order some online from our client Woods of Morecambe to try at home.

  • @MissSmashedFingers If you don't mind me asking, what are your measurements?

  • @quixiiify That's what I thought until I went out bra shopping. My measurement underneath my breasts is 30 inches. I went to the shop and tried band size 30 & I couldn't breath nor pull it up to even put the bra on. I then tried a 32, felt okay in the fitting room but after about an hour of wearing a 32 I had to take it off due to it being SO uncomfortable, it left a big red line all the way round me. Add four or five method gives me 34, which fits perfectly. I guess it works for some people.

  • I'll never understand why fitting guides like this say to add 4 or 5 inches. DON'T DO IT!! Your bras will fit so much better if you just round to the nearest even number for your band size.

  • I am 36 b

  • This is the most accurate bra measurement video I've seen so far. As with many women, I'd been wearing band sizes too big for me (32 and 34 mainly). Turns out I'm actually a 30! And I've noticed the difference too- the 30 bands don't ride up my back like the bigger sizes did, and it just feels more secure in general.

The only problem with 30 bands is that they're a bit harder to find; some manufacturers don't even seem to do them!

Thank you for the video :-)

  • @Quaycreative I wouldn't try a double D, because I had my size taken professionally later that day, and I'm still a B cup.

  • Excellent video. Perfection at its best.
