  • I actually prefer the white looking maple I hate how maple yellows it just looks like it has too much poly on it. We just had custom cabinets built and our biggest request was for it to be a clear white finish so we can just have that nice maple. It turned out great. So if I was to do this on my own I should use water based finish?

  • @Milkchug33 a cut just refers to the concentration of shellac. So a 2lb cut is thicker than a 1lb cut. Its a way of expressing a certain amount of solids in a volume of liquid. Do a google search on shellac dilutions and you should find a bunch of in-depth discussions.

  • Sinse I am just learning the basics, this was very helpful. Learning that water base stays non yellowing was very interesting and helpful, also learning about your use of shelac. Thanks Jonly
