the C-64 used the 6510 a variation of the 6502.. it has a register that allows it to switch memory under rom to ram that was how u could write code to load into ram and switch out the rom chip
I found it interesting as I'm working to understand a program called diversi-dial
written for the Apple //e 7 modem chat program. Been working on it off and on for
the last 20 years. It's something I do to relax after a hard day. Still though, I found his talk to be informative, easy to understand and it was refreshing to see so many 6502 ASM programmers in one place. It's still a very popular chip despite what the naysayers say about so-called "dying" technology. Apple //e Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ioctlvoid I appreciate the complexity, and general awesomeness of CPU's and the people who program them. But not all of us are computer geniuses. I really wish I was though as I don't know what the guy is talking about either lol
As a CS grad student I find it very sad that the majority of people seem to think computers are quite simple or at best only somewhat complicated devices. Did you really find THIS to be complicated? He barely *scratched* the surface of the _programmer_ side of the CPU, he didn't even go into the implementation at all. Try taking an in-depth look at the boolean logic in a pocket calculator and try to REALLY understand it, it will probably take you and most others at least several years.
i raised my hand in all honesty for every question he asked at the beginning of this except the design team joke. it's official, i need to get laid.

I really like this guy's in-depth knowledge of the 6502. I wish there was a video like this for the Z80.

There's never been so many assembly programmers reunited in a room. Lol.

I'm studying the 2A03 in my free time right now. (The clone of the 6502 used in the NES with addtional Audio, but without decimal mode)
It is really interesting and a lot of fun!
