Joe Zawinul wrote Great Expectations. Miles Davis is renowned for putting his name on others' work. Jesus Lizard is one of the best live bands I've ever seen. This will be my only post on the subject.

Holy shit. The jesus lizard were the best live band I've ever seen. i've seen them maybe 5 times. i actually saw them in january 3 months before this show in the same club. for a second i thought maybe they had the date wrong. u are right it's the same riff. whether it was intentional or not remains to be seen. lot's of alcohol and other substances were very prevalent in those days. as a musician and song writer myself he may have subconciously done it. or maybe he just stole it. feeling duped.

I think a lotta musicians take something old and put a new spin on it. Even Dylan admitted Hendrix' 'Watchtower' was way better than his. I like Miles 'G. Expectations' too but these guys sleaze the riff into total gloriousness and that bass line rulez

It's not about loyalty, it's about understanding music, what is a homage and what is a rip.

I tried to explain that it was more of a homage than a rip, & that there is very much a difference between the two, you say no

If you don't think there is a difference between the two, then you shouldn't really be telling anyone else on here to read a book or to read up on music history, and if you're not willing to accept someone else making a counter then you need to let us enjoy this band in peace.

"I tried to explain that it was more of a homage than a rip, you say no"
Cause you are, evidently , wrong and you feel you're right no matter what. An homage is a little musical phrase/module put in a whole different piece, with a different main theme. Here, again, the MAIN THEME of the piece is taken from a less known Miles album.

Can I say what I think or you're gonna whine forever?
Just listen to your band in peace, but you can't teach me things you don't know. Settled? I hope so.
