Occupation: Dreamland is an unflinchingly candid portrait of a squad of American soldiers deployed in the doomed Iraq city of Falluja during the winter of 2004. A collective study of the soldiers unfolds as they patrol an environment of low-intensity conflict creeping steadily towards catastrophe. Through the squads activities Occupation: Dreamland provides a vital glimpse into the last days of Falluja. The film documents the citys waning stability before a final series of military assaults began in the spring of 2004 that effectively destroyed it.

Filmmakers Garrett Scott and Ian Olds were given access to all operations of the Armys 82nd Airborne. They lived with the unit 24/7, giving voice to soldiers held under a strict code of authority as they cope with an ambiguous, often lethal environment. The result is a revealing, sometimes surprising look at Army life, operations and the complexity of American war in the 21st century

  • Not that I'm defending the US, but it's not like Russian soldiers are exactly saints, either. Can you spell Chechnya?

  • Seriously though.. what strategic objective grabbing a woman accomplishes? Women in those backward places are by far the most abused human beings. I fail to see the point of incarcerating a woman.. other than making these already pissed dudes enraged more and wanting to blow shit up. This one incident could easily result in a good american soldier dead, but for fucking what??

  • Personally, I'd rather someone tell everything to NATO so we can stop terroists full fucking stop, but no, everything has to be differcult.

Then these idoits wonder why we kill their 'brothers, probably just an excuse to make our leaders feel guilty anyway in some circumstances.

  • Give a campaign allowance to politicians. Everyone gets the same amount. The same media coverage. Make expenditures absolutely transparent. No kickbacks for people that are supposed to be public servants. This is not derogatory. If you don't have the right mindset..stay out of politics. If you are not in politics to serve your citizens, then do something else.

  • In closing, stop "defending your country" and "policing" other countries. Cut down on wasteful consumption of natural resources...build a better infrastructure for public transportation...put restrictions on cars per household...stop exploiting natural and human resources...make stuff in your own country w/ your own workforce even if it seems to be more expensive...which it isn't if you think big...stop colonizing other countries. Give political candidates equal exposure and finance.

  • Deploy a brainwashed supposedly altruistic "international police force" and just force your way into other countries, take what you can and cover your tracks. How many people including your own do you have to fuck over?? The US isn't even 300 years old. If you're judging your country based on its economic and military power then yes, there's no way around it...you are a "superpower." But if you look at the country for what it is: spoiled brat/bully.

  • Terminate your service. Protest and refuse to invade, torture, murder and take advantage of other countries. America was formed by English immigrants who couldn't stand being harassed in England. So called "pilgrims " ironically fucked over the only real Americans..i.e. Native Americans..(Bad habits don't die easy do they...current actions mirror past ones).

  • That's a really selfish and irresponsible comment. A statement like this could only be said by someone who isn't on the receiving end. Sure Americans "serving" abroad get killed. But, sorry to say, if you look at the bigger picture, the immediate and collateral damage that invaded middle eastern countries suffer and will continue to suffer for decades is nothing in comparison to US losses. If being in Iraq has nothing to do with defending your country, then stay the fuck out. And don't enlist.

  • US involvement in the middle east is disgusting. And that's just a euphemism for what I really think. It's all about economics. The whole war on terrorism is a joke. Soldiers are adults. Soldiering is a job. If your employer asked you to do things that violated common sense and ethics...i.e. kill his competition. Would you do it? Would you do it and then try to justify your and your co-workers base actions???

  • "Fuckin asshole" lmaooo
