Washington, DC Gay Marriage bill introduced

DC Councilmember at Large David Catania introduced a landmark bill to create equal marriage opportunities for same-sex couples. The bill is titled The Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Amendment of 2009. The bill also guarantees religious exemptions for organizations that hold other beliefs or traditions in accordance with the First Amendment of the US Constitution. The proposed bill will also put an end to domestic partnership registration on January 1, 2011.

Councilmembers Phil Mendelson and Jim Graham also speak in favor and congratulate the DC Council and all those who helped support the measure.

in a lot of LGBT Legislation and issues the majority of the "black" community has not supported it even though just a few decades ago they were fighting for the same things.

What is even more shocking to me, is that the same blacks don't seem to understand that these same bright white neo-cons were burning crosses in their yards just a few years back.......how ignorant to not realize that these bigots trying to block gay marriage would rather have a white gay neighbor than a black straight neighbor. Talk about sleeping with the enemy.
