The usual wording of the oath is:
"I... swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God."

Members who object to swearing the oath are permitted to make a solemn affirmation under the terms of the Oaths Act, 1888:
"I... do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors, according to law."

  • Lol it's just weird that we still have queens in the western world.

  • @jjason55740

In a democracy, the system of government is determined by the people via their democratically elected representatives.

A majority of people in the UK want the monarchy to continue.

  • @timmye00: As I said, pagan.

  • @jjason55740 Why is it so weird? Constitutional Monarchies can be more democratic than Republics are. Have you ever heard of a referendum on a Republic, so they would become a Monarchy? But you had referendums on Monarchies which turned them into Republics.

I live in a Republic, and I would give everything to live in a Constitutional Monarchy. People never appreciate what they hold as guaranteed. Such ungrateful people...

  • @ToaJoe: Hitler was actually pagan. If he was a strong Roman Catholic he would never have allowed paganism to be taught in nazi schools and he wouldn't have set up the German Faith Movement which worshipped the sun.

  • @jjason55740 IT keeps these bastards under control though.

  • Don't get personal mate. My point is that in all these cases religion, though used as a reason for war, was essentially a proxy through which warring societies attempted to justify violence. A warring society could similarly use the cause of democracy (e.g. Iraq 2003) or human rights (e.g. Sierra Leone) to try to justify their actions. In any case, even if religion were a primary cause of dispute that does not by extension mean that religious people are somehow less intelligent or less violent.

  • @isthisthewaywego2 You're a completely retarded idiot (like anyone else who claims Hitler was an athiest). Hitler was a STRONG roman catholic. When the soviets started promoting athiesm, he strengthened his ties to the church even more. This is very basic history.

9/11 was done in the name of Muhammed, and you know it!

The entire NI conflict is caused soley by Catholics vs Protestants. You are a fool for thinking otherwise.

  • @ToaJoe

Hitler was effectively an atheist and opposed the Jews on racial grounds and blamed them for Germany's defeat in WW1. 9/11 was a political statement against perceived Western interference in Middle Eastern affairs, and the troubles were a cultural dispute involving allegiances to two rival societies and perceived inequalities towards a Catholic minority in Northern Ireland.

  • @isthisthewaywego2 Of course I can't prove it. But isn't it a coincidence that the troubles in northern ireland, the holocaust, 9/11 and countless other disasters in human history have all been caused by religion?

  • @ToaJoe

Load of rubbish. Can you prove that or are you just being ridiculous?

  • @Redpill2011 Of course there are left wing Christians. But to be truly left wing, you cannot be religious. There are certain things (namely the issue of abortion and marriage) that the left wing endorses that are incompatable with religion.
