I have a 2004 Mustang convertible 3.8L V6 and for a few months now I have had a kind of clicking noise right when I start up my car or when my engine is cold and it usually lasts about 3-4 minutes then goes away. The sound on the camera is really bad and you can barely hear the clicking over the engine in the video but it is actually much louder than the engine in person. You can kind of hear it well around 52-54 seconds in.

  • Everyone who wanted to know what it was: turned out to be the exhaust manifold. If you don't know what that is, it basically just pulls out the hot air from the engine and moves it to your exhaust which is why when the gas is pressed and the engine runs it makes the sound louder. Also when it is run for awhile the metal gets hot and expands just a little bit to close the crack making it a lot quieter after a few minutes or hour of running. I got it welded at a local mechanic and its good as new

  • Deathfrumbullet, I havent pinpointed what it is yet but I am taking it to the shop on tuesday. I did a little more investigation and it actually is on the drivers side like yours but seems to be coming from the actual engine block near the back cylinder exhaust manifold. Let me kmow if you found out what yours is.

  • what is it. im havein the same problem

  • Would like to know what it was

  • Did u ever end up fixing this.. I have a 2002 v6 conv. That has had the same noise for more than a year.

  • In spanish they call it the TENSOR its under the belts, I had the same sound, i actually have the same exact car mine is a 2003 convertible 3.8l v6 with the MACH audio too, love it..

  • its your manifold, i have the same problem. there is a tiny tiny space between it and your block, and when the manifold heats up, the metal expands, sealing itself, stopping the noise.

  • did you ever find out what the issue was? i have a very similiar problem with my 2001 mustang 3.8L v6 but it doesnt go away and is on the driver side. any info would be appreciated
