At this years Greenbuild Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, Optimum Energy released their new optimization software for HVAC systems, which reduces energy use in large buildings up to 30 to 70 percent. Tali interviews Nathan, Optimum Energys founder, president, and CEO about his new software.

How it works: The energy reduction is accomplished by varying the speed and flow of water throughout the HVAC system. The software easily connects to the buildings automation system and tells the system how to operate the plan most efficiently. The speed of each piece of equipment is varied based on its power and energy requirements which will then be used to determine the lowest amount of energy necessary and the appropriate amount of cold water to cool the building.

An online dashboard illustrates the reduced energy results as well as money saved and reduced CO2 emissions. A live monitor over the web is another feature of this software. The products ROI is 13-18 months with the cost of a project averaging between $300,000 to $550,000. The software can be implemented in new buildings or for retrofits, qualifies for Energy Star and LEED points, and has 9 patents.
