Xenakis composed the solo percussion work Rebonds in 1987-89, and dedicated it to percussionist Sylvio Gualda.
"Rebonds is in two parts, a and b. The order of play is not fixed: either ab or ba, without a break. The metronomic indications are approximate. Part a only uses skins: two bongos, three tom-toms, two bass drums. Part b uses two bongos, one tumba, one tom-tom, bass drums, and a set of five wood blocks. The tuning of the skins and the wood blocks should extend over a very wide range."

You are lucky to have so much equipment that you have two setups for the one piece - I had to make one set-up work for a and b because I was also performing Hollinden's Slender Beams of Solid Rhythm and there were only so many drums on campus. Also, I love the double-headed tom toms - in the US we so often settle for single-headed concert toms and it is a shame; the sound quality and tone of your drums is awesome! I am going to check out more of your videos tomorrow.

Bravo! I did quite a lot of research on Xenakis over my many years of higher education, and performed Rebonds several times for various occasions. He would have loved to hear this performance with the acoustics created by the massive architecture of this cathedral. He generally saw his music as structures, physical creations; he also grew up in an entirely different soundscape with the Communist rebellion against Fascism. Loud chaotic noises were quite normal to his ears.
