This is the 4th and climax episode in the Loco Travel: Inawashiro series.
In this episode, I finally make it to my main destination - Mt. Bandai.
With a car, this kinda thing is quite easy. You can drive up to near the entrance and come back down to a comfy car awaiting you. But going really backpack style, it's a little more difficult to just get there in the first place, and you don't have a clue what's awaiting you when you get down. I hiked up one side and came down the other. The hike down was insane - battling extreme winds that pulled me in every direction and rain that slicked up the path, making it very difficult to keep my footing. But I'm very glad I still decided to climb it. In fact, I'm glad it was difficult. It gives more meaning to the Caught Doin' Good comparison I gave in the last vid.
As I travel the world next year through some of the toughest places a person can go, I'll always remember Mt. Bandai. I beat that mountain - I can beat this one too.

And the presence of the senior citizens made something clear to me. Often when you face a challenge, and you think it's nearly impossible or that you're foolish to even attempt it, you look around and realize that there are many other people who have faced the same challenge and overcome it. You're not the first one to tackle that mountain, and you won't be the last. It can and has been done, and you will succeed at it too.

I hope you guys can take some kind of life message out of that as well.

Don't give up - let's all conquer the mountains set before us!

  • Beautiful. Subscribed :)

  • Appreciate it!

  • did you REALLY see a large group of elders, or were they the mountain spirits taking human form to push you along? I'm gonna try this next time I'm back in Japan. Looks like a blast.

  • Hehe - maybe it was mountain spirits after-all...

Then again, maybe I'm actually a mountain spirit. I did die in an earthquake.

Get out and enjoy the great outdoors!

You can meet awesome Japanese people out there too.

  • Wow kudos on climbing Bandai san on a stormy day! And lol.. I was surprised to see the bag filled with candy too. Maybe it's in case someone gets stuck there and needs food? You took away their food noooo! LOL just kidding.

  • I was actually starved and parched when I ran into that, and that little bit of candy was a real life-saver!

Don't worry - I just took one and left the rest behind. If you ever get to Bandai-san, keep an eye out for gramma's candy. ^^

  • Wow pretty magic with the mists and all. Thanks for the vid. Although I think the real 'climax' should of been you throwing a few left right combinations on the summit with a bit of the rocky theme song in the back ground :) Maybe even an impromtu sumo comp with your climbing partners thrown in aswell?

  • must've felt like you were in a manga, lol

  • hahaa grandma is always helpful

  • You're not the first one to tackle that mountain, and you won't be the last. It can and has been done, and you will succeed at it too.
