If only he hadn't retired in the first place. I think a lot of retired swimmers are seeing the field even out a little and are coming back due to the suit rules (Brendan Hansen, Ed Moses). He's got a lot of work to do and not much time. Thorpe's freestyle is second to none. I just don't see him having the conditioning to beat phelps or lochte at the 200. In the 100 there is no way he'll have the explosiveness. If he doesn't have mild success prior to the games, I see him retiring again...

I can hear the collective yawn of swimmers everywhere! Thorpe is past his prime! I'm sure Cielo, Park Tae Hwan, Nathan Adrian and Ryan Lochte are saying 'Ian who?' Michael Phelps is probably laughing his ass off in his million dollar condo! Why do these 'over the hill' athletes keep coming back to embarass themselves on the world stage? Ian Thorpe and Dara Torres need to stay home and learn to knit or something! Let the young swimmers have their chance in the spotlight!
