Scrapacat from http://gesso-dragon.blogspot.com/ gave us a challenge to use gesso that had been texturized in some way in our journals. I've just started using texture in my art and I really had fun doing this page.

I used my Not Sketchbook for the Sketchbook Project 2011 for this challenge. I forgot to add it to the credits though...

  • Could you slow it down or show us the products you are using? It looks great but I don't know what materials to use for those looks.

  • @frostynature I had to go back & watch the vid again! I forgot what I used... here's the list, in order as I used it:

Acrylic craft paint, torn paper, gel medium, gesso (what really caused the background texture when I closed the page), Dr Ph. Martin caligraphy ink (dropped & blown around w/ air), watercolor crayon (yellow in background), more paper, stamp pad, paint pen.. the last thing "puffy" fabric paint, called 3 Dimentional Paint now, I think, for the spirals.

  • I tend to use a lot of swirls! Maybe Poe Pressure will help me break that habit! LOL

So far I'm enjoying the Sketchbook Project. The right theme helps. I don't know if I'd be enjoying it as much with a different theme.

I only have a few metallic paints. I tend to use a lot of greens & blues. Another thing Poe can help me with!

The 1st gesso didn't really show up the texture, but the 2nd time I did it, it really showed up well. I'll have to get some close up pictures!

  • Thanks so much for the answer re: supplies. Now I can get artsy!

  • I love the many layers. It turned out great!

  • I kept playing with mine while it was drying cause I noticed it wasn't really giving me the texture I wanted. I love the metallic paints, they're a lot of fun but I don't think I have that pretty blue green. I love how the page turned out in the end, great colors :)

  • love the music D!!

And the metallic paints (at least, i think they are, some of them) are awesom!!

    love your page!

    Hugs, karin

  • Yayyy I like it! how are you enjoying the Sketchbook project so far?
