Yes, this was the old track. The best place to watch, in my opinion, was not at Eau Rouge but just before Les Combes. From there you could see the cars come out of Radillon, through the sweeps up to Les Combes, an amazing sight. You could also see across the valley to La Source, very atmospheric. Sadly such atmosphere is hard to find at races these days, not even at the 'Ring after the new big fence was put up.

Great film of what was sadly a very tragic race. At 42 seconds in you managed to catch Joisten in the Jägermeister BMW before his fatal crash. RiP Hans-Peter Joisten, Massimo Larini, Roger Dubos.

C'est un beau travail! J'étais présent à ces tragiques 24 heures. J'ai beaucoup de nostalgie du vieux traçé mais il était malheureusement aussi rapide que dangereux...

I was there too, a young lad of 11 years.

Freddy Kottulinsky won the 2nd edition of the Paris-Dakar in 1980 in a VW Iltis without any proper preparation or experience of desert racing. He was obviously a talented all-round driver.
Very good vid, I love the old Celicas, Capris & BMWs. The music was very ad hoc.

The Celica went very well, the drivers were Ove Andersson (former director of Toyota F1, who at the time was one of the top rally drivers and sadly died recently) and Freddy Kottulinsky who was a top F3 driver. As for the music, obviously I added this as the film was "silent". The music comes from Youtube's library and is free of rights - probably because nobody knows who wrote it. The original music had to be taken off because the owners complained!
