Date Rape PSA Video. Public domain video. Public service announcement.

Date Rape - Protecting Yourself - A video PSA about the injustice of date rape. From the public domain. When people think of rape, they might think of a stranger jumping out of a shadowy place and sexually attacking someone. But it's not only strangers who rape. In fact, about half of all people who are raped know the person who attacked them. Girls and women are most often raped, but guys can also be raped. Most friendships, acquaintances, and dates never lead to violence, of course. But, sadly, sometimes it happens. When forced sex occurs between two people who already know each other, it is known as date rape or acquaintance rape. Even if the two people know each other well, and even if they were intimate or had sex before, no one has the right to force a sexual act on another person against his or her will. Although it involves forced sex, rape is not about sex or passion. Rape has nothing to do with love. Rape is an act of aggression and violence. You may hear some people say that those who have been raped were somehow "asking for it" because of the clothes they wore or the way they acted. That's wrong: The person who is raped is not to blame. Rape is always the fault of the rapist. And that's also the case when two people are dating — or even in an intimate relationship. One person never owes the other person sex. If sex is forced against someone's will, that's rape. Healthy relationships involve respect — including respect for the feelings of others. Someone who really cares about you will respect your wishes and not force or pressure you to have sex. Alcohol is often involved in date rapes. Drinking can loosen inhibitions, dull common sense, and — for some people — allow aggressive tendencies to surface. Drugs may also play a role. You may have heard about "date rape" drugs like rohypnol ("roofies"), gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), and ketamine. Drugs like these can easily be mixed in drinks to make a person black out and forget things that happen. Both girls and guys who have been given these drugs report feeling paralyzed, having blurred vision, and lack of memory. The best defense against date rape is to try to prevent it whenever possible. Here are some things both girls and guys can do: Avoid secluded places (this may even mean your room or your partner's) until you trust your partner. Don't spend time alone with someone who makes you feel uneasy or uncomfortable. This means following your instincts and removing yourself from situations that you don't feel good about. Stay sober and aware. If you're with someone you don't know very well, be aware of what's going on around you and try to stay in control. Also, be aware of your date's ability to consent to sexual activity — you may become guilty of committing rape if the other person is not in a condition to respond or react. Know what you want. Be clear about what kind of relationship you want with another person. If you are not sure, then ask the other person to respect your feelings and to give you time. Don't allow yourself to be subject to peer pressure or encouraged to do something that you don't want to do.

  • What makes you think that people that are getting raped don't say stop? They always say STOP. The rapist isn't going to listen to you. You're making rape seem like it's consensual. If you look up the definition you would understand that what you're showing is completely wrong. "It felt wrong so I told him to stop." Seriously? Obviously rape is going to feel wrong. You're putting all the blame on the victim. Yes, it's good to report it but if you were trying to say that you went about it wrong.

  • @tangocash44 There isn't always an opportunity for someone to speak up if they're being taken advantage of. Intoxication or date rape drugs incapacitate victims so that they are useless to aid in their own defense, and sometime are not even conscious. This does NOT mean it is their fault because they did not speak up. The fault is always on the abuser, and the bystanders who may have seen it play out but did nothing.

"I'm not trying to whip up a hysteria"

    Yes you are.

  • @ZimbaZumba This is a youtube video I'm not trying to whip up a hysteria and I'm not a feminist, don't blow things out of proportion. I didn't say I had statistics and a mainstream commentary. If you ever listen to people talking about incidents like this people ask where they drunk, did they flirt, what where the wearing, where were they and questions like that, and I know this because I've been in many conversations like it. I didn't say everyone I said so many people, people i've met.

  • @shikamaruisfit Wtf with

".. but the fact is so many people assume it's the woman's fault when it is not. "

No they don't, where's you evidence for this. Show me large numbers of news reports and articles that say it was a women fault for getting raped. Show me any remotely mainstream commentary that says rape is a woman's fault.

You are trying to whip up hysteria, shame on you!! This Feminist hysteria campaign is the same as what Hitler used with demonizing the Jews.

  • The "Don't Cross the Line" campaign is an anti-male diatribe, a disgrace and an insult to men and boys. They lied to downplay violence against men. it is an anti male campaign.

google;- Don't Cross the Line misled Parliament

  • @MikePinkerman Of course people should be taught not to steal, but I'm not talking about fucking banks am I? I understand that women should try to not put themselves in dangerous situations but the fact is so many people assume it's the woman's fault when it is not.

  • The "Don't Cross the Line" campaign was discredited by fake anti-male statistics on their website. The issue was brought up in the State Parliament.

  • @shikamaruisfit Dumbest comment I have ever seen. What next, we shouldn't encourage banks to have security but people should be taught not to steal, perhaps?

  • @Bisquack WTF not all fucking women r liars get a life sheesh idiot

  • @Bisquack excuse you??!!!!! That Is extremely sexist you can't just say ' women are such fucking liars' that's like saying all

Birds are blue. IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY!!!!!
