@eng7173 uh i would of thought the new engines are 4 strokes not a 2 stroke like this but jonny motors dont rev high and try to get a 69-72 mercury motor way faster

omc stinger or a merc or a 6cyl on a Bass tower / lower unit. LOL . Just kidding , bad idea, boat would not be safe with #2.
-
you wrecked it with the music.

I have a 350 lb 1980 15' Allison fishing boat, pad width about 8", it runs 41.5 mph (2 way average measured with GPS). However, the setup and prop work are far from standard.

PS Flip the boat over and straightedge the bottom, speed is lost if there's any hook. A hook will make the nose drag through the water, and with a hook jacking up the motor won't give you the needed speed increase.
-
Not better built, the 1976-1993 25s will blow it away by turning 6000-7000 RPM and holding together (the 1955 25 will likely come apart at the seams if you can drag it up to 6000 RPM). Also, any 25 made 1976-1993 can be converted to 35 hp by installing a carburetor from a 35 in any year of that range.

Dragging too much boat through the water, speed thrown away. Jack the motor up to 19" and get a good, cupped higher pitch prop.

There's a yellow one on here that does 65mph plus witha 75 hp short Shaft Stinger. Its badass
-
how fast did it run with the 25hp?
-
Tunnel hull
Throw a OMC Stinger on there! Then you will know what fast is like LOL
