http://www.euronews.net/ When the red flag bearing the hammer and sickle was thrown to the ground in a crowd, it was an action rich in symbolism, the flag of a nation which at times had drawn taught, tensions with the west. Twenty years ago it signalled the end of the USSR and the birth of Russia.

It became a political reality on December 8th 1991 in Minsk. Boris Yeltsin, President of Russia and his counterparts from Belarus and Ukrainian signed the dissolution of the union and created in the USSR's wake the Commonwealth of Independent States.

  • @Blindanddumb I don't think any Lech Walesa or Gorbachev during the black and white TV years, right?

The entire W EU was against him, large anti-american and anti-nuke demonstrations to protest his very tough stand against SOVIETS, Reagan openly threatened Soviets with a nuke attack if they do not start changing their political system, SOCIALIST Obama to Iran the very same way? Not in a million years!

  • I see the super spammer of Euronews has multiple accounts to thumb up his messages.

  • @401RoadWarrior the way history is told here, everything started with solidarnosc and gorbatschow. :D

but anyway, good to see you feel that way. i hope your life is better now.

  • @401RoadWarrior

Din pacate comunismul n-a cazut, s-a reformat si ataca si mai tare decat inainte, cel mai elocvent exemplu este cel dat de China!

  • @Blindanddumb 27 years of age when I defected to the West from RO 22+ years ago, same year with Nadia Comaneci, been to Berlin 3 times, '81, '83, '85, I will never ever forget that grotesque piece of COMMUNIST ideology better known as the BERLIN WALL, '1984' the movie is nothing compared to our lives behind the Iron Curtain.

If it wasn't for the great leadership of a great political man, Ronald Reagan, God knows when communism would have finally fell for good, if ever...

  • if people could remember the cold war times better, they'd stop badmouthing the EU.

  • Here we go again, re-opening old wounds. See this is why the Cold War lasted as long as it did. The USSR,US,EU,NATO,UN, are all one in the same, and all share equally the same shame. I choose no sides. I just think these sorts of uploads, just pointless.

Empires and Countries come and go. The only one I salute to is ME! and only ME!.

  • F*ck the USSR. Destroyed so many countries.

  • Come on, Euronews? Lol. I will see what I read in books, a communist end in Europe(with that euro coin) plus the collapse of the USA empire. I hope but I doubt I will all pass without war.And the ones that need it, are the western countries. Its a shame.
