Neoconservatism was mostly a result of the shift toward cultural liberalism which took place during the sixties. The original neoconservatives were concerned with the long-term effects of this shift toward flamboyant individualism, and saw it as a force dividing the country when the country must be ever unified so as to maintain strength and not diminish. It is like trotskyism only in the sense that both sought unification of the masses, but for much different purposes and goals.

China definitely has a lot of pull on Australia, I know it because I live in Australia and their economy does affect ours, in fact we avoided the fate of many other Western nations because of our burgeoning relationship with China.

Actually Americans are into distribution of wealth, I used to live in the US, it was not always so unequal over there but now its getting out of hand, like a third world nation. The fact remains thought that average Aussie are much better off than average Americans and that will remain the case for a long time, for many Americans their quality of life is diminishing rapidly hence the massive protests in America.

Tell that to people who live in America, the weak Dollar has done nothing for them except make it more expensive to live there. The strong Aussie is a win for Australians, not a lose situation, China will continue to buy resources for a long time so that will drive up the Aussie for years. Australia is number 2, the US is number 4 but when they included income inequality, America goes down to 23!!! So I guess income inequality should be used to measure a nation's quality of life.
