@MetalHeart8787 It seems like one might be considered an idiot for thinking a country could become "communist" today, but back in 1947 the US policy was definitely about that, at least in regard to Japan. It's one of the reasons there was so much support for the right there from Washington, including the repatriation of PM Kishii, who had been tried as a war criminal after WWII. Up until '47 it was all about Japan as a democratic experiment, which sadly didn't last too long, as the Reds menaced.

I think anyone is an Idiot thinking that Japan will become "comunist"
2 Big Nations have Failed at it.
Japan gain economic Growth & is very much Happy with Democracy.
has lived that way since 50's. This shows it could have whent a different way.
its a Good thing it didn't. YES! every country can have a economic growth & Peace but theres always a threat, BUT IF there was NO threat & EVERY country disarmed we would live in a better world. Great Documentary!

I think what is shown in this video maybe one of the reasons why the Japanese Communist Party has been gaining more and more momentum with an ever increasing number of members these years.
What do you think are the flaws in this documentary?

See ep. 3 of the commanding heights, pacific century advocates for gov't control of economy, and sees Japan as the role model to follow in the business world. Just two years after the documentary is film, the real world proved them wrong. However, it's does have lots of merits, and beat any of the CNBC special reports they have today. I feel the film maker are honest in view, unlike media today that intentionally dumb down content and mislead the audience.

@limaktba Hmmm-it seems to me that the way in which the Japanese way of capitalism was presented was a little more complex than just 'government regulation'. The analogy they provided is that of the baseball game, in which the government (MITI) does not make the rules and enforce them (which they say of the US) system, but that rather it is a participant in the game (unlike in the 60s when "MITI was the commander in chief"). But I'm not trying to argue. I also think this film was interesting.

The Japan and Korean episode in the series is not back. (Though they completely missed the Real Estate bubble and demographic issue despite being film at the height of the bubble.) The major flaw are the ones about China. Granted it's is the 90's information is hard to come by and China is a big country. (Especially the opium war movie, I seen it; and it's is not at all how it was described in the series. Subtitle issues miss understanding on part of the producers maybe...)
