  • Hi..yes I agree. The Pople is aware of these differences among Lutherans and that's why in the not too distant he said that if he wants to talk to real Lutherans for discussions he would talk to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (my church)...why talk to Lutherans who are not faithful to Lutheran teaching...

  • Apostate would have to mean ANY false doctrine as Jesus said in Matt 16:18 bc a true church guided by the Holy Spirit cannot teach anything misrepresenting Christ. Where did this church go? I would have to think the Luth/Sweden could not be tied @ all to Lutheranism bc of a broken link to sola scriptura due to this. Similarily those claiming to be 'womenpriest' in the RCC really are not RCC at all no matter how much they claim to be. This motion certainly puts a strain on reconcil bw Luth/RCC.

  • HI...it depends on your definition of "apostate"...if that means ANY false doctrine..then it is apostate...if that means false doctrine that applies to fundamental doctrines about God, Jesus and the way of salvation...then it may or may not be apostate...but unfortuantely a church that teaches gay marraige prob has lost or soon will loose the proper teaching on the way of salvation too...very sad...and you are right...such a position compromises their entire witness to truth...

  • I must comment on the example of Catholics. The difference there is although select members of the RCC may feel women ordination should be allowed, church doctrine officially says no. The church stands firm on 1 unchanging truth. Ive heard from noncatholics that RCC is an apostate church bc it doesnt confess to sola scriptura/sola fide. Since gay marriage is in direct opposition, does this make the Luth. church/Sweden an apostate church under the same terms? How can this church now claim truth?

  • HI...unfortunately there are differences among Lutherans (just like there are different views among Catholics on such things as ordination of women). Some Lutherans are "Liberal" and thus not faithful to the bible or the Lutheran Confessions. The church I belong to, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (as well as many other Lutheran denominations) does not agree with gay marraige...so we agree that is is contrary to Scripture as well as the history of Christendom...

  • I have an honest question since you are a Lutheran pastor (I know you arent part of this division of Lutherans). I hear the Lutheran Church of Sweden is considering allowing gay marriage. How does that work w/ sola scriptura? If gay marriage is approved, does it mean biblical versus opposing it were deemed incorrectly interpreted since the start of Christianity? Or does it mean God revealed gay marriage is now acceptable? Doesnt this make the Lutheran church a higher authority than the bible?
