'Fighting Infection by Clonal Selection' was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Burnet's Clonal Selection Theory. The animation shows how clonal selection works during a bacterial infection of the throat. Frank Macfarlane Burnet was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1960 and is widely acknowledged as the founder of modern immunology.

@sailtheseaofcheese. We would have very much liked to include the role of other white blood cells in our animation, but as rmcdaniel423 has pointed out, this really would have required a much longer animation which was not possible at the time. Hopefully we can expand on this animation in the future to include the role of other leukocytes.

Pretty good. Nice animation and narration. I wish they would've been more specific about the "other cells" that find the antibody marked pathogens.

@pdxmomazon It's always challenging to find the right balance for the narration with respect to how much scientific information/terminology it should contain. For this project, we really wanted to keep the narration as easy to understand by the lay audience so we chose not to include the names of new white blood cells right at the end of the animation. But you're right, we could have been more specific.
