Indian ring necks are slowly conquering Western Europe. Not because of global warming. They are simply used to our temperate climate as it is very similar to what they are used to in the foothills of the Himalayas. Although they may threaten indigenous species in the long run, I have to admit they look a lot better and are more fun than pigeons.

  • The Indian species is actually from mid - southern India down to Sri Lanka. The Alexandrian species is from the foothills of the Himalayas. Same family of bird, different species. Many of the wild flocks around the world including California USA and London UK are introduced, theyre believed to have started from peoples pets that have escaped or been set free as they are not migrating birds.

  • So it must be the Alexandrian type over here. Can you tell from the footage?

  • What a beautiful site to see! We don't have wild IRNs in Aus but I have 2 Indian Ringnecks and they are my world, I love them dearly. Theyre very cheeky!

  • There are also large flocks in Belgium and The Netherlands. They have been introduced but seem to do really well. Quite impressive too as they make a lot of noise and it looks really weird to see up to a few hundred green birds in a single tree if you're used to pigeons and seagulls!

  • Oh my, that would be beautiful! Many people think they are pests because they eat through crops, but those people just can't see the real beauty! :) Oh I know how noisy my 2 pets can get so I can imagine hundreds. hehe. I'd love to see some wild ones one day. You are lucky.

  • Search for vid "ringneck halsbandparkiet" halsbandparkiet means ringneck. Although not the best quality you will get the idea!!
