  • I love Donna Murphy's version of this from Sondheim's 80th birthday concert. Does anyone have that version on YouTube?

  • WOW! I loved her in Will Rogers Follies and I think this is the best version I have ever heard.

  • This son and that one are classics and dee has the emotions needed for this song

  • Of the many versions, I like Dee Hoty's and Donna Murphy's the best, but for different reasons. I like how Dee's Phyllis remains collected and pretty much calm.

  • She gets it.

  • This is the best version. She is such the quintessential WASP. (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) Good voice, beautiful, sarcasm, emotional range and wit... you could just see her singing this in a fantastic apartment in Manhattan. (Or house in the Berkshires/Hampton/London/Paris) She really makes you believe she's the character. And THAT is what nails it.

  • This is IT. NOBODY whips this song into shape like Dee Hoty, or performs it with more intensity, emotional variation, humor, rage, sarcasm and lost love, IMHO. It's such a great character song that almost anybody could make it work. And I love all the others who've performed it. But this, for me, is the definitive knock-it-outta-the-ballpark keeper.

  • This, to me, is the perfect version.

  • @DixiePhantom You're right, Donna's is fabulous...My favorite version. I bought the dvd on iTunes but I'll see what I can do about getting it up on YT!

  • i'm singing this for solo and ensamble
