yeah he was lying about why he didn't come to see her but he was honest with Laura. I think it scared him about Mary. he didn't know what to say. one day a girl you like can see, another day, she's blind. it's confusing for a guy or anybody.

I like what ML did with Mary's character when she went blind. Because in real life, the real Mary's family all took care of her til the day she died. She never married, had children or anything. In the series, ML wanted to develop her character into "what if's" If she was independent, had fallen in love and gotten married, became a teacher. Did all the things a sighted person could still do. True her character was put through so much, but out of all of them I think her's was a test of faith.
