There is this raccoon that hangs out in our neighborhood. He takes from the food bowls we put out for our cats.

You didn't put that bucket out for your cats as you say in your description, as it is too deep for them. You put that bucket of food out specifically for raccoons and now you have trained even more to invade people's yards looking for food - good job.

  • Actually I did, I have a lot of cats and they all come and eat their turn. And since this video, we haven't had any more raccoons in our yard or sighted in anyone else yard.

"I assure you that it is as much impossible to prove as it is possible to prove"

It is only impossible to prove Evolution to people such as yourself that choose to deny proven science because of a literal interpretation of Genesis. The rest of us have chosen reality over fantasy.

  • You'll have to do a little better than that to prove that God did not create the universe in which we live and the vastly intricate laws upon which these adaptive mutations scientists speak of should be carried out. I assure you that it is as much impossible to prove as it is possible to prove.

  • Deliberately feeding raccoons is not entirely the problem. There is also the issue that people unintentionally attract raccoons by leaving food out for their cats, leaving food out for birds, building Koi ponds, setting up gardens, leaving garbage out, etc.

"maybe raccoons aren't that nice, but they do have a purpose, which is why god created them"

God didn't create raccoons, they came about through a series of adaptive mutations called evolution. You should try reading a science book sometime to better understand the reasons for the diversity of life on our planet.

"we did move in many animals' territories to begin with so what do they have left to do but try find food where they live"

Uh, that's not the problem. The problem is that people (like the one that made this video) put food out for them which attracts them to backyards and they become a pest for their neighbors. People shouldn't feed them as the raccoons become dependent on their food and also overpopulate as a result.

"They help keep bug and rodent populations down, among other things"

No, raccoons don't pursue rodents much as their chases rarely end in success so they don't curb those populations. The bugs raccoons eat would be harmless ones like slow moving beetles or worms. Raccoons in the city where I live scatter garbage cans every night. They used to be food for larger predators such as cougars & wolves but most of those are gone now & my neighborhood is completely overrun with raccoons.

  • Raccoons also have a purpose. They help keep bug and rodent populations down, among other things.

The people who live in rural areas knowing raccoons are active there are like the people who live in areas knowing the risk of frequent mudslides.

  • well neil, the way i see it, we did move in many animals' territories to begin with so what do they have left to do but try to find food where they live.

i think you gotta be pretty slow to get bitten by one since most are afraid..but it happens.

i still think they're cute. thanks for the vid!

  • maybe raccoons arent that nice, but they do have a purpose, which is why god created them.

I don't have porcupines that live in my area so I really don't know much about them, although I have heard that getting stuck by it's quills can be quite painful.

Try Wikipedia for some answers on porcupines.

  • oh alright then i guess your right then but i still gotta question..i saw a random porcipine at my front door..how dangerous are they?

  • xxcdemon08:

"possums bats and rats do the same thing."

NO, they don't! You don't have much experience with wildlife. I live by a woods and have experience with all them. Raccoons are deliberate vandals to property and can be very bold around people.

You may not like the way opossums look but they are harmless and should be left alone.

Bats are harmless and even beneficial; they eat mosquitoes.

Rats are a pest and you hear plenty about people hating them and trapping and poisoning them.

  • possums bats and rats do the same thing..no one aint sayin anythin bout them...i hate possums cuz they be aw scary lookin

  • xxcdemon08:

"i love coons! why does everyone hate them?"

    1) They tear apart garbage cans and spread debris all over the yard

    2) They bite people, forcing that person to go through 4 months of painful rabies shots and spend $1500

    3) They will overturn every flower pot in a yard, breaking them

    4) They chew holes in garden hoses

    5) They dig up lawns

    6) They kill pet cats

    7) They break into basement and attic windows and tear up the house once inside

I could go on and on but you get the point.

  • i love coons! why does everyone hate them?

  • LOL this is the funniest thing ive seen!!

they look like bandits stealing food!
