The last 10 minutes of Star Wars Galaxies in Europe-FarStar galaxy.

Watch in HD for best audiovisual experience.

UPDATE 26-Feb-2012: SWG Memory Book is no longer available from SOE. A friendly YouTuber (m7digger) has however uploaded it to Mediafire:

Unfortunately i was not able to be at the keyboard during the final minutes (hence stationary camera). Official shutdown time for European galaxies was Dec 16, 2011 at 5am GMT, which was 7am in Finland. I simply had to go to work. But i wanted something, so i left my character afk and recording video. Recording took place in front of Mos Eisley Starport. It had more people than the Great Pit of Carkoon hangout created by the devs (at least when i took one last look at both locations within 30 minutes of shutdown).

Lots of people so it's hard to tell player names in most cases. I think leaving player names visible was still the better option versus having no names at all. Guild chat is from Unity.

On the technical side, volumetric shadows were disabled due to heavy population (framerate killer). I also disabled bloom in this case (some ridiculously bright thingies at the feet of players with it enabled). Framerate is poor, but as the camera doesn't move at all, it's not a complete disaster.

If you are wondering about the odd hiss-like sound, it's caused by fireworks (the fuse burning).

SWG was the first ever mmorpg for me. There can be only one first ever. Therefore i have some unique memories from this game that no other game can't possibly provide - ever. The first few weeks especially were something magical. Gaen, originally Gaen Menda and later changed to just Gaen, was born in July 1st, 2004. I logged into Mos Eisley. I didn't play actively all the way from 2004 to the last days of the game. There were lots of inactive periods.

Seeing the last connection lost message, even if it was from this video footage after the actual shutdown, was emotional.

About 39 additional minutes from the last hour of FarStar, recorded in a similar fashion:

Part of a series of SWG gameplay videos i've made for memories sake (the game was closed down on Dec 15, 2011). You can find more in my Star Wars Galaxies playlist:

  • @pukcip83 Me too I had the best time of my life in this game too once in the early days when i started playing on this sever.

  • I remember some of these players I think I know some of these players used to be nasty to me when I played. Why does it have to be them on this video :P

  • Hay I recognize some of these players I remember Adam guy I think.

  • hay this used to be the sever I used to play on my character was called Arciv Ido if anyone remembers me. I knew allot of the people on this sever.

  • Poor game pushed aside by its younger brother. I hope the guildes and friendships in galaxies will be reborn in the old republic. Sucks for people who made a guilde to something exclusive to galaxies they can't be reborn. Hopefully one day a sequel or remake will be born from the ashes.

  • its sad to see it go..i didnt lay it..but it certainly looked cool...why did it stop?

  • Its intresting to read the ingame chat ;)

  • so sad to see im almost crying :( had the best time of my life in this game :\

  • SWTOR is WAYY WORSE then SWG

  • It's funny. I played the game on and off pre cu, cu and NGE. In MMO's I've always been a somewhat hardcore PvP'er, but in SWG I had no clue what I was doing. I was just running around, crafting, decorating my House (AWESOME) and socializing and I still had a blast! I did not need to play leet and own up people to have fun in this game. Another thing is that I met plenty of really cool people in SWG, it's community just felt better than all the competitors.
