Dutch artist Diederick Kraaijeveld went to Detroit Michigan to salvage wood from the many many abandoned buildings there. With the colored wood the artist builds monumental icons....in this case three ´Icons of Hope´ for a city in despair. See Kraaijeveld and his guide, urban explorer Dan, salvage wood from the abandoned Fisher Body Plant, the Lee Plaza Hotel and the Highland Police Station, to name a few. Filmed and directed by Gideon Elings (www.gideoncameracrew.nl)

  • @Toxidizer it could be seen as destroying but he was getting small peices of wood to make historical art from abandoned building in Detriot

  • HOLY SHYT !!! THE WILD WILD WEST HAS MOVED TO DETROIT !

  • My uncle and father worked at fisher body.

  • seen building in worse conditions renovated also buildings demolished the moment the last guy shuts the door behind him

  • great work

  • god what a wast people who make these calls to leave these buildings un cared for should all go to jail the american people end up paying for all this

  • Noticed some of the terra cotta lion sculptures missing on the roof of that police station and several more still there, since there are a few left it would seem the ones who removed the others were probably caught red handed, which would explain why the rest are still there.

  • @jamesrdolan Regardless of what he calls it or the purpose, anyone entering these buildings can be arrested and charged with either burglary or trespassing, as well as posession of burglar's tools if they have any crowbars, screwdrivers etc in their posession.

Just walking through the door or a window is comitting the crime, once you cross over the property line you break the law and can be arrested.

I think by now people are fed up with scavengers tearing these buildings up.

  • Tox, i just can agree with you... stupid guys!

  • Nice... just destroy those locations so we have less to explore... A shame that he didn't fell into a nail or fell down a few stairs... asshole!
