I think Cyril and Shirley are loosely based on Finger and Honky from Nuts in May.

Leigh can be a genuis but too often he veers into caricature which just lessons the impact of the story. Still a great film though.

Those flats were near York Road near Kings Cross.They got knocked down 9 years ago.Mike Leigh's work should be taught at schools.But they wont because he is Left wing and tells the truth.
