With SUP Key West, we walked on water along a mangrove island while soaking in the sights of a tropical paradise. The day of our visit, we took a boat ride with Almost There Charters to an island named Boca Grande in the Key West National Wildlife Refuge. As soon as we dropped anchor, we saw an Eagle Ray swim past our boat. Mesmerized, we hopped into the warm shallow Gulf waters and onto our sturdy paddleboards. As we paddled along the white sandy shore, we saw fish and stingrays swim around us in the clear turquoise waters. We also had the chance to play with a little hermit crab we found. Throughout our adventure, Megan, the owner of SUP Key West and a Marine Biologist, taught us about the sea life, mangroves, and island ecology. As Megan led us through the mangroves, we saw osprey, cormorants, and a group of rare Roseate Spoonbills. After paddling through the mangroves and around the island for a while, we rode the current right back to our boat and climbed in.
Although our paddle boarding adventure may have ended, the fun doesn't stop there. Captain Steve, an experienced captain and fisherman, set out in search of sharks swimming in the clear shallow waters. After some searching, we saw a couple out in the distance. Captain Steve was able to get a nurse shark right next to our boat using chum and other techniques. We pet the shark and swam with it for a bit before it swam away from us. We then sped back through the waves to the dock, followed part of the way by a group of dolphins. Thank you so much Megan and Captain Steve for providing us with an exceptionally exciting adventure! This was a great way to start our trip to the Keys.

Sweet vid Dude. Don't mean to sound like i'm starving, but my mouth waters every time I see a nurse shark. They are so tasty because all they eat is shellfish mostly.
