I clean the tube and bite valve about once every couple of weeks. I take everything apart and run it through the dishwasher 'standing' the tube up by putting each end on the pieces of plastic that stick up to hold my plates or I just wash them in the sink. I also have a small tube brush that I'll run through it. I only use water in mine so it tends not to get too gross.I'm actually getting a new one because my bite valve finally gave up but it took two years for it to split with a LOT of use.
