@DaveRossi2 i wish everybody was that wise

It's amazing that they can take a series so competent of moving scenes like this and then come out with trash like SGU.

@ShadowCloud143 Ark of Truth, a DVD movie

What episode was this?
-
What's said in this scene can be equated in reality with the consequences of crimes against humanity committed by individuals under orders of their masters. Their remorse and their own conscience torments them. They might not like carrying out these orders against fellow human beings but they know the alternative, to disobey, is punishable by death and inevitably another individual will take their place.

Teal'c once again proves he is one of the most complicated and profound characters of the show and one of the best characters in all of sci-fi. hell, might even be one of the best characters in all of fiction.

Probably the most profound idea I ever heard expressed on the show and casts all of Teal'c's time on the show in a new light. When did he realize that redemption/forgiveness was impossible?

@DaveRossi2 he was never looking for forgiveness, he was looking to free his brethren/family/friends/race

@aquilascura I think when one realizes like Tomin and Teal'c have that he has been living a lie and serving a lie, there has to be a period of looking for a way to redeem oneself of that shameful past. It is a moment of losing everything you believed about yourself and the world you inhabited. Teal'c empathizes because he sees Tomin starting down a road Teal'c has already travelled.
