You are basically trying to match physiological patterns in our brains with our concepts of what social interraction is, However, I think it may not be entirely true that we have any say on who we are "right now". Given a certain activity in your brain one should assume that we also have the ability to change it instantly. Which, I think, maybe too much to ask from our nervous system.
