  • Yeah, but your computer wasn't built in 1957.

  • Great that you got the museum guide to do the narration for this video...very informative.

  • The usefulness of a supercomputer vs. its performance is nonlinear:

By T. J. Watson's "ethical" logic, if I were to be awarded a $100 million contract for a supercomputer, and delivered a PC capable of 1% of the target performance, I would be entitled to keep $1 million. Where can I sign up???!!!

  • IBM=International Business Machines.

  • @daretorun I'm not insulting the 7030, man. It's a machine.

They don't take anything personal. Colder than your ex-wifes

    mothers breath...

VCR's and motorcycles; now they have personalities....

That people continuously improve on technology is a given...

I am somewhat (slightly) knowledgeable about analogue,

digital and hybrid computers, cars, motorcycles,

the life-cycles of stars and a little less so on the thought

    processes of straight women.

No man really understands feminine logic.

  • @dippywatcher Sorry for coming off that way, it's hard to convey/interpret voice in text. I have no vested interest in this machine, so no worries if you insult it.

Haha, yeah, I may have skewed the Edison story, but hey, it's the message that counts, right?

Anyways, you sound very knowledgeable about processors, so I'll take your word that current computers are not a direct decedents of this, but you do have to admit that technology builds upon itself.

  • @dippywatcher Sorry for pulling your chain. You just sounded so arrogant.

I know quite a bit about processor architectures, you see...

I haven't bothered to research the 7030, but I would bet you a week of your salary that even an Intel 8086 is structurally very different to this heap...

And Edison said 699 or 700 (not sure) not one thousand, so the story goes.

It's best to talk about stuff you actually know about.

Then, choose to be arrogant if you wish.

    Just my few bits worth.

    Peace!

  • @dippywatcher

When Edison was asked about his thousandth failed lightbulb, he replied "I've found a thousand ways NOT to build a lightbulb."

So what if this computer was junk. Others learned from its flaws and built on its successes.

Also, don't attack me with this "what drugs are you on?" BS. Attack the argument, not the person.

  • @daretorun What drugs are you on?

Do your homework.... The above machine was a DOG...

Cray and CDC blew this junk away.

  • Seymour Cray wiped the floor with Watson...
