Recorded Monday, September 26, 2011, as part of the Architecture Lecture Series at California College of the Arts, Guy Nordenson presented at Timken Lecture Hall on the San Francisco campus.
Guy Nordenson is a professor of structural engineering and architecture at Princeton University, faculty associate of the University Center for Human Values, and author of On the Water: Palisade Bay. Nordenson was the structural engineer for the Museum of Modern Art expansion in New York, designed by Taniguchi and Associates; the Jubilee Church in Rome, with Richard Meier & Partners; the Toledo Museum of Art's Glass Pavilion, with SANAA; the Simmons residence hall at MIT, with Steven Holl Architects; the Santa Fe Opera House; and more than 100 other projects. He is active in earthquake engineering, including code development, technology transfer, long-range planning for FEMA and the USGS, and research. He initiated and led the development of the New York City Seismic Code from 1984 to its enactment into law in 1995 and is currently involved in the exhibition Rising Currents: Projects for New York's Waterfront at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
