Survive Johnson City! Downtown Johnson City, TN on April 1st, 2011.

Has Johnson City found its claim to fame? The city's name may forever be emblazoned in the "Guinness Book of World Records" for having the largest game of zombie tag — a whopping 3,000 players.

Event organizer Joe Carnevale was pleasantly surprised with attendance numbers. Early Friday, only around 1,200 were expected to show, according to the group's Facebook page.

"We stopped counting after we reached 1,350," said Carnevale.

According to a news release, the previous world record was 796 players, held by a group of students in the United Kingdom.

I'm excited to have worked the worlds largest game of Zombie Tag! Props to all those who came out, and to those who made it to all six checkpoints! I definitely think it was a hit, everyone had a blast, and united we broke a world record. Should Johnson City have this event again? My vote is yes....
