I think that's not so, because at the very end of this vid, you hear him playing the first chords of a song (Octopus, probably).

Jerry and David tended to back Syd in the very few performances he made in 1970, including the recording of Barrett, where David was primarily the bass player in addition to producing the album with Rick Wright (although Rick didn't do the live performances.) Jerry Shirley mentions in the PF + SB story documentary that he and David backed Syd, apparently in a power trio format, placing David on bass.
The Peel Sessions credit David on bass, guitar, organ and vocals.

If you listen to the ending chatter, you can hear someone saying "We can't hear your voice." If this IS the show Syd walked away from, perhaps it was because he was very frustrated with the bad sound at the performance !
