15 Hawker Hunter jet fighters displayed at Kemble airfield in summer of 2001 to mark the 50th anniversary of this famous British built jet fighter. All of the aircraft were privately owned with a number of ex Swiss Air Force single seat and two seat Hunter aircraft taking part.

The video starts with a streamed take-off and a flypast by all fifteen Hawker Hunters of various marks in a delta formation. This is a very rare sight. A reminder perhaps of the Royal Air Force Black Arrows and Blue Diamonds aerobatic display teams of the late 1950s and early 1960s. One of the two seat Hunter T7s is painted in the colours of 111 (treble-one) Squadron RAF the Black Arrows.

Other Hawker Hunters include Hunter F6 aircraft. One was in 43 Fighter Squadron markings and another, in 234 Squadron markings, exhibited the characteristic blue note aerodynamic noise of the Hunter flying at high speed (between 3:30 and 3:40 minutes on the video).

Perhaps the most distinctive Hunters on display were the multi-coloured Hawker Hunter Miss Demeanour flown by Jonathon Whaley of Heritage Aviation Developments Limited and the "Papyrus" Hunter in the markings of Fliegerstaffel 15 of the Swiss Air Force, which was painted in a the style of a paper aeroplane.

The Hawker Hunter served with many air forces around the world. This video is a short record of a unique day in the history of a classic jet fighter aircraft.

  • Excellent, excellent video! I too think that the Hunter is one of the most graceful jets ever designed & wish I could get into the cockpit of one! (not just in FS2004!)

  • Awesome, these truly are fantastic aircraft and a credit to the men and women who built and flew them.
