@elCytrone this is a basic example if you were using something like a 555 chip or even arduin you could write code to turn the switch on so you coud have a circuit that made paterns with multiple switches or asemble multiple transistors to create a motot controller

also you could use it to controll higher voltage say have 1v to turn the transistor on supplied by the arduino and the transistor turns on a 10v current

@elCytrone if you're in EET 101, then wait till your 2nd semester, and you'll see, this is only the "basic" use of a transistor but believe me, you don't want to use switches to make an led flasher, that would be nuts

What is the difference between simple switch and with transistor ? To turn diode on with a transistor you also need to connect wires. Why not use a simple switch instead ?
